MYRIAM KONÉ
As a self-taught artist, Myriam has been painting and writing since childhood, but her first love has always been literature.
Many hours of reading as well as her life experiences pushed her to write and then publish in 2015 "Les pièces multicolores du destin", a very personal work in which she reveals a large part of her personal journey.
In 2020, she feels an urgent and visceral need to create, and after a 10-year break, she takes up painting again. This creation is a life-saver and answers a compelling need. In one year, she produces around a hundred canvases.
Portraits are omnipresent in her work. Myriam is fascinated by facial features and looks, but also by literature and various philosophical thoughts, which she believes have a definite influence on our own motivation, resilience and destiny. As a result, her work has evolved over time.
Initially highly figurative and embellished with a variety of materials, it gradually focused on creating a visual bridge between painting and writing.
Myriam uses black-and-white photographs that she combines with texts to integrate a spiritual and literary dimension into her work.
In her opinion, "simple" photography or painting is not enough to represent all the different facets and thoughts of a person, so shecompletes her portraits through her own intuition and sensitivity.
In 2023, as part of an interdisciplinary collective project entitled "Afrodescent Constellations", Myriam is able to put her work as a portrait painter into practice by creating paintings of 12 Swiss Afrodescent personalities. The aim is to shed light on their experiences and answer the following question: "As a black person in Switzerland, what obstacles have you encountered, and what has given you the strength to pursue your dreams and achieve your goals?”
Myriam has one certainty: nothing is permanent except change. This certainty leads her to perpetually question herself and to remain - constantly - in search of answers and in a state of research.
