Biography

Born in 1990, Ulrik Abé specializes in graphic communication at INSAAC from which he graduated with a master's degree. Very early, he finds in art an outlet, an escape. Through his practice, he undertakes a quest for identity and reveals the answers to his existential questions.

Mixing earth, coffee and cocoa with painting, the artist develops a singular aesthetic that he nicknamed Art'boki in reference to the Abokis, street vendors of hot drinks in Côte d'Ivoire.

Approach and technique

In his quest for happiness, the artist undertakes a quest for identity and reveals the answers to his existential questions through his series "Blues", "Roots" or "Unity". Art is for him an outlet, an escape.

Ulrik does not use black paint, it is the pigmentation of coffee that allows him to obtain this tint and also to create interesting plays of shadows.

Volume and texture are very characteristic elements of his work. He signs his canvases with an undulation made with a rake, which marks the texture. Depending on the work, this undulation can take on different meanings: sometimes the fact of veiling one's face (in the series "Illusions") and sometimes the link between two people (in the series "Unity").
